Frequently asked questions
MusiMap was first founded in 2008, and quickly became one of the first companies in the world to map the emotional DNA of music. After being acquired by a Swiss MusicTech company in 2021, the project was discontinued following the cessation of operations of that company. In 2025, the original founders and engineers rebuilt MusiMap independently, enhancing the technology, continuing the Founders legacy to ensure MusiMap retains its competitive edge by enabling businesses to deliver more intelligent, intuitive, and human-centered audio experiences.
MusiMap doesn't rely on OpenAI, Google, or any external AI provider. We've built our own Deep Learning models entirely in-house, trained on more than 1 million tracks manually annotated by professional musicologists through many years. Our technology results from over 15 years of research combining music cognition, acoustics, and machine learning - giving MusiMap a truly emotional understanding of how people feel and relate to music.
MusiMap works directly with audio files, not metadata or previews. To ensure accurate analysis, our clients must provide the actual audio files they want to process. For demonstration purposes, our public tool supports web links (like Spotify or SoundCloud), but those depend on external availability - and may not always be reliable. In production, all analyses are done on securely stored client audio within our cloud infrastructure.
Our goal is to go far beyond audio tagging or advanced search. We're developing a broader ecosystem around music fingerprinting, listener profiling, AI-driven discovery, and even an interactive map of music that visually connects sounds, styles, and emotions. In short, MusiMap aims to become a complete platform for artists, labels, and music lovers - helping listeners discover new music, and artists be discovered.
MusiMap's technology is used by music platforms, record labels, radio libraries and media companies to understand, organize, and recommend music in a more emotional and human way. Our APIs can be integrated into streaming services, catalog management systems, playlisting tools, and even music creation environments. From startups to global players, our partners use MusiMap to unlock the emotional layer of their music data - turning sound into understanding.
